The TD Bank Hay Maze Mayhem 🎃
Share
In the fall of 2023, we pulled off one of our most ambitious (and hay-covered) projects yet—a hay maze for a TD Bank Grand Opening event. What started as a simple idea for a fall-themed photo backdrop quickly turned into a sprawling autumn experience complete with hundreds of hay bales, corn stalks, florals, foliage, and a custom-built photo op at the maze’s end.

It All Started with a "Crazy" Idea…
The original vision was a festive fall-themed backdrop—something cozy and classic. But then we got a call from Eileen at EC Connects, someone we've had the absolute pleasure of working with for years. We’ve built a great relationship with her over time, and she always brings big ideas and even bigger energy.
This time, she asked if we could go big. "Like... hay maze big".
To be honest, we thought she was a little crazy. But every year, our ideas with Eileen get more and more creative, and somehow, we always find a way to bring them to life. So we said yes—and the real work began.
Blood, Sweat, and Hay Bales
Unloading and staging hundreds of heavy hay bales was no small feat. It took hours of intense physical labor, and we definitely underestimated the sheer effort involved. The physicality of the production surprised us all—and we felt it the next day.
We’re still finding hay in our storage, boxes, and decorations from that day! Everyone was sneezing for days, but the laughs and memories were more than worth it.

Favorite Moments
What made the maze magical were the little fall touches—vibrant florals, scattered leaves, pumpkins, and warm tones tucked throughout the path. At the end of the maze, guests were greeted by a custom photo op backdrop we designed just for the occasion. It was the perfect moment to snap a pic and take a memory home.

Would We Do It Again?
Without a doubt. But next time? We’re bringing more hands!
If you’re looking to turn heads and create something unforgettable for your next event, Down to Dirt is ready to dream big with you. Let’s build something amazing—hay bales and all.
